Currently my group is facing a challenge from another group regarding a method revision. I believe that it is common knowledge not to use Potassium Phosphate with SDS because a precipitation reaction occurs. This precipitation reaction does not occur when Sodium Phosphate is used. However the group will not revise the method unless a scientific reason is given as to why this occurs. Any leads to determine why this occurs?

We had ideas that affected KSP (common ion effect, potassium lauryl sulfate) but they don't make sense.....

Potassium Dodecyl Sulfate is much less soluble than SDS. I have looked for numbers but have not found any yet. The precipitation of KDS is used quite often for biological purifications. You could find several references for that if it would help.
